5 Ways Water Makes Our Lives Better – By Glug Glug Glug
Around 2/3 of our body is made up of water, so it’s not surprising that we’re recommended to consume a lot of it. Water is a vital liquid for our bodies to function and more importantly, function well. At Glug Glug Glug we hope to inspire others to improve their water consumption, as we recognise the huge significance in staying hydrated. This article will discuss the many ways in which water benefits our lives, and why you should make your best effort to drink as much as possible, each day.
1: Reduces the risk of chronic diseases
A range of studies have demonstrated the prevalence of water in reducing the chances of getting nasty diseases. Water has been commonly linked with combatting kidney problems, certain forms of cancer and even the common cold. There is no bad side to drinking water, it can only beneficial to our health. For example, kidney stones can be combated by drinking more water as water dissolves the matter that forms the stones. Dehydration has also been associated with problems involving the bladder and prostate. You don’t need to overthink it too much, but it is important to consider how your water intake can affect all parts of your body. Water that is lost should be topped up!
2: Helps maintain weight loss
Of course, water is 100% calorie free and therefore is the perfect choice if you’re looking to either maintain or lose weight. Studies have shown that water can reduce appetite, boosts our metabolic rate and provides you with more energy. All of this combines to a good structure for losing or maintaining weight, so that you have high energy levels to exercise and can eat in good portion sizes too. Incorporating more water in your diet alone will make you feel great and in the long term aid you in losing weight healthily. So, instead of having a high calorie fizzy drink, have a glass of water, it is much better for you.
3: Aids skin care
Water is second to none with helping your skin looking its best. Drinking at least 8 glasses a day will ensure your skin is able to flush the toxins and hydrate your skin, as skin cells are also made up of water (so they need replenishing too!) You can also hydrate your skin with moisturising products, but water is your best bet, as it provides hydration that skin care products cannot. You may also find that spots and blemishes on your skin will minimise after continuously drinking enough water, and will always be recommended by a dermatologist at the first point of call. Of course, drinking more water won’t necessarily cure your skin overnight, but it’s one of the contributing factors and is always worth a try.
4: Enhances daily functioning
Have you ever found yourself with a random headache during the day? Chances are it may be down to a lack of water, meaning your body is dehydrated. The recommended daily water intake for men is 3.3 litres and for women 2.2 litres, so if you’re not reaching these sort of levels it may have an impact on how you feel during the day. You will also find that dehydration causes fatigue, drowsiness and muscle cramping, and none of us want that. All you need to do is make an effort to drink water whenever possible, a little is better than none!
5: You can get it for free!
This may not be a health related benefit, but will surely be a popular one. Every restaurant and cafe in the Britain is legally required to provide free water from their taps if they sell alcohol, so why not take advantage of it? Instead of piling up the price with a coke, try out the most cost effective option, water! Saving money on drinks will make a long-term difference to your spending costs, which can’t be a bad thing.
